S.S.DALEY present their SS24 menswear collection ‘Merry Ment’ — a continuation of designer Steven Stokey-Daley’s subversion of typical notions of British uniformity and sexual expression with a narrowed focus this season on the life of an artist.
Beginning with a curation of images illustrating the likes of Lucien Freud and David Hockney in their working habitats and working clothes, it inspired Daley to question the notion of uniform and links to the investigation into the uniforms of British public schools.
Working with an Italian partner offers a renewed approach to tailoring; British school uniform esque jackets cut in brown ticking striped linen and ecru cotton twill. One with bias cut pockets creating a chevron effect, whilst the other edged with a burgundy zig-zag stitch around the revere, pockets and armholes inspired by the inner finishings of vintage British swimwear.
Knitwear runs throughout, such as a chocolate brown vest and olive sweater illustrated with mirroring Dacshunds, a London dog favorite; acting as a brother to the popular Duck cardigan that S.S.DALEY have become known for. Returning carryovers such as the iconic double pleat wide leg trousers, now cut in lightweight, paper touch Japanese style cottons, as though the S.S.DALEY man is home for the summer.
