Musician, producer, and DJ, Bapari, has released a new EP Oasis via Halcyon Veil, following initial single “Outskirts”.
An exploration of textures, Oasis is Bapari’s attempt to reconstruct materials like glass, metal, or concrete in a sonic dimension. The EP follows their intuition in creating synesthetic translations of hyper-specific atmospheres: solitude, underground tunnels, New York City in autumn, industrial landscapes overtaken by nature.
Describing the process, Bapari states: “I was chipping away trying to come up with sounds or tones translated from visual influences I found emotionally intriguing.”
The featured artists on the album were essentially unplanned and came from an organic collaboration of friends. Both on “Sore”, which features singer Lolahol (aka Lourdes Leon), and “Outskirts” featuring Kidä, the singers’ own emotional connections to the music prompted them to lend their voices.
Last summer, they released their EP Stamina with the Mexico City label NAAFI. Their 2021 release “Daybreak” was named a best track of 2021 by Resident Advisor. In W Magazine, Euphoria star Hunter Schafer called Bapari an inspiration and “an incredible Black trans DJ, who is blowing up right now”.
