Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign sample Kettenkarrussell’s “Maybe”

Last week Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign dropped their surprise-release new album Vultures 2, which included a Kettenkarrussel sample.

After dropping the song “Slide” on yeezy.com and then live-streaming the project on YouTube, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign released Vultures 2. While full credits for the album had not been posted on streaming services, according to Genius.com, other online sources, collaborators appear to include Lil Wayne (on “Lifestyle”); Don Toliver, Kodak Black and Playboi Carti (“Field Trip”); Future (“Promotion” and “Dead,” the latter also with Lil Durk); Lil Baby (“Forever Rolling”); 070 Shake, CyHi & Desiigner (“Sky City”); Charlie Wilson, Young Thug and the Inter Milan Ultras (“River”); James Blake (“Slide”); and Ty’s incarcerated brother Big TC with, curiously, veteran rocker Todd Rundgren on the closing cut, “My Soul,” although the latter’s contribution is unclear.

However, it was track 9, “Forever”, which caught our attention. Originally titled “Maybe” before being changed to “Forever”, the single samples Kettenkarussell’s intoxicating house classic “Maybe” which was release in 2022 via Giegling. The track features the trademark lo-fi infused beat with a pitched vocal exclaiming “maybe we can last forever”.

The king of samples strikes again, and could this be the start of Kanye venturing into more contemporary electronic music?
