Mechatok has returned to the sound sphere with his debut single on Young Recordings—his first solo release in over three years.
Hot on the heels of collaborations with Yung Lean, Oklou, Bladee, Charli XCX, and Evian Christ, “Addiction” sees Timur Tokdemir, aka Mechatok, exploring playful, bouncy, and experimental sounds that are as compulsive and compelling as the title suggests. Served up alongside a visual created alongside Nate Boyce, “Addiction” is the first release of many this year from the Munich-born, London-based artist.
Speaking on the new single, Mechatok stated: “During the time I made the song I felt like I was stuck in some kind of loop. Or more like many loops running parallel. Doing things, consuming media etc. unsure If I actually enjoy them or if they’re basically just compulsive habits. “Addiction” emerged as a soundtrack to that. It’s kind of like a pop song looking at itself in a broken mirror”
