Grace Wales Bonner has just released her debut womenswear collection this week.
Titled “Selah”, the collection reflects a contemplative pause, inspired by music and is the designer’s very first range dedicated solely to womenswear. The pieces feature light, transitional styles with an introspective vibe. Finely tailored tuxedo jackets are worn sans blouses, pleated trousers are paired with leather-trimmed cardigans, and a duffel jacket is reimagined as a leather shift dress. Reissues include the signature Mary Jane and tracksuit, with a brown co-ord set featuring an orange stripe complementing a macramé dress in the same colour scheme.
Standout pieces within the collection include a cavalry coat boasting satin contrasts and gold buttons, crafted in collaboration with Savile Row Tailors Anderson and Sheppard. A graphic tee, featuring iconic imagery by photographer Moneta Sleet Jr., also features, thanks to The Black Image Corporation, founded by Theaster Gates.
