Arca has released new album XXXXX via XL Recordings, marking her first full-length project since 2021’s acclaimed KiCk i and the subsequent KICK series.
Spanning 16 tracks, XXXXX pushes further into the Venezuelan artist’s experimental world, blending industrial textures, fractured electronics and emotionally charged songwriting. Originally conceived as a mixtape, the record embraces contradiction and transformation, expanding on the boundary-pushing approach that has defined Arca’s work.
The album arrives after last week’s Diva.Experimental livestream, a two-hour performance broadcast from an abandoned factory in Barcelona. Directed by Daniel Sannwald, the immersive event saw Arca perform the album in full through a series of cinematic environments, blurring the lines between live music, visual art and performance.
To mark the release, fan-hosted listening events took place across cities including London, New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Mexico City and Tokyo, with Arca making a surprise appearance at the Barcelona gathering.
XXXXX follows a prolific period for the producer, who has recently collaborated with Tokischa, remixed tracks for Addison Rae, Robyn and Hikaru Utada, contributed production to Madonna’s CONFESSIONS II, and composed the score for Stillz’s film Barrio Triste.
