G.H.Bass is celebrating two milestones this year: 150 years since its founding, and 90 years of its iconic Weejuns penny loafer, first introduced in 1936.
Founded in Maine in 1876, G.H.Bass initially introduced the Weejuns loafer in 1936, credited as the world’s first penny loafer. To mark the anniversary, the brand will launch a capsule collection in September featuring the penny loafer and an Ivy League-inspired loafer, including a special anniversary penny, alongside ranger and camp moc boots reflecting the brand’s outdoor heritage. Each style will carry the anniversary embossed on the side.
The wider anniversary programme includes events in Milan, Berlin, New York and London, alongside editorial partnerships, special-edition retail gifts and an anniversary pack featuring archival imagery and a timeline of the brand’s history.
Cultural collaborations will include a partnership with Bristol Northern Soul Club, alongside editorial features on musicians and creatives across fashion, music and food. The brand will also work with Nepenthes’ Woburn Walk, Dover Street Market and Karl Lagerfeld, with further coverage of the Weejuns’ history through partnerships with publications including Esquire.
