Pär Grindvik and Sylvie Maziarz combine forces following the Swedish techno giant’s remix of Sylvie’s track ‘Increased’ in 2019. With an accomplished category of releases from Maziarz throughout the last two years, the rising Berlin artist and Berghain regular Grindvik unleash their thunderous 5 track collaboration with none other than the virtuous Second State.
Kicking off the EP is the menacing strains and flurried hi-hats in ‘Bullet Tower’. Similarly to the other tracks, this cut tells a story using a unique element,- clattering bells and shuddering bass. Following on is ‘Before We Run’, containing a ferocious kick-drum and a bubbling vocal that ripples over the hysteria. Synth notes swirl throughout and gradually overwhelm the rhythm before driving forwards once again.
On the flip is ‘Utopia’, a song full of wild percussion and drawn out synths immersed in unbroken kicks and whirling beeps. Backing up the B-side is ‘Circles’, a transey paradisical odyssey, characterised by the subdued sample of a hospital monitor at the beginning and end, with ethereal drawn out pads that take us on a journey between earth and the other side. The final track incorporates dense sonics to help build climax, featuring kick and snare drums throughout to create a definitive roller.
