DJ K, the 24-year-old producer from Diadema, has released Rádio Libertadora!, a fierce and politically charged album that pushes Brazilian funk into radical new territory.
Widely renown for pioneering bruxaria—a dark, distorted offshoot of baile funk—DJ K fuses harsh electronic sounds with themes of police violence, inequality and resistance. The album opens with a bold sample from a 1969 anti-dictatorship broadcast by guerrilla leader Carlos Marighella, signalling its rebellious intent from the start.
“This is an album against the system,” DJ K says. Across 11 tracks, he blends thundering bass, sirens, gunshots and aggressive lyrics to paint a sonic portrait of life on Brazil’s urban fringes.
Influenced by ’90s protest rap legends including Racionais MCs and Dexter, DJ K channels that militant energy into a futuristic, chaotic sound. Songs such as “Troca Tiro e Faz Dinheiro” to “Mega Suicidio Automotivo” blur the line between rave and riot, while club-driven tracks such as “Techno de Favelado” twist house and techno through a funk lens.
