Following a run of festivals and a sold-out European tour, Montell Fish has announced details of his upcoming mixtape under his dj gummy bear alias.
The Spirit Still Remains (Purgatory) is set to arrive on 31st October, showcasing a boundary-pushing sound that blends electronic, house, ambient and experimental influences—an outlet for Montell’s freer, genre-bending explorations beyond his core work.
On the mixtape, Montell explained: “‘Purgatory’ refers to the space in between, the liminal, the state of limbo someone feels when going through transitionary periods, or when someone is stuck between heaven and hell in a religion. Both feelings are what I want this mixtape to represent. It’s the place where dj gummy bear lives as this moniker allows me to explore those in-between moments and sounds, without judgement.”
Alongside the announcement, Montell has shared new single “Ostentatious” featuring UK artist John Glacier. The track pairs shimmering production and Montell’s airy vocals with Glacier’s understated verses, accompanied by a Jared Hogan–directed video capturing the eerie aftermath of a party.
