Nia Archives has shared new single “Vertical”, the latest preview of her forthcoming album Emotional Junglist.

The track sees the producer and singer expand her signature jungle sound, pairing skittering percussion with influences drawn from ’90s electronica, while exploring the euphoric early stages of romance. Accompanied by a video directed by Dylan Gee and filmed across New York City at night, “Vertical” captures the hazy atmosphere of post-rave intimacy and new love.

Speaking on the single, Nia Archives explained: “There’s this one synth that kind of beeps, and it just makes you feel a bit dissociative. That’s what I enjoy about production – how can you say something without the lyrics? I wanted it to feel like December in London.”

Set for release later this year, Emotional Junglist is described as Nia Archives’ most ambitious project to date. Written during a transformative period in her personal life, the album explores the complexities of love, heartbreak and self-growth, while broadening her sonic palette through collaborations with producers and songwriters including James Ford, Ethan P. Flynn and Julia Michaels. The project will also feature appearances from Jorja Smith and Sampha.
