London experimental artist and multi-disciplinary talent Klein has announced a deluxe edition of her acclaimed mixtape sleep with a cane, set for exclusive release on Bandcamp and as a limited 3LP white-and-black-splatter vinyl via her website.
The news follows a string of new visuals, including a dramatic reworking of “VIP on 10”, adapted from her play Psalms Trust Vol. 2 and starring bee bee smith, as well as a new video for the standalone orchestral piece “amongst us”, which will also be included as a bonus film with the vinyl edition.
The expanded project lands shortly after Klein’s work on the score for BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions, the debut feature from filmmaker Kahlil Joseph. The deluxe mixtape broadens the scope of the original release, presenting a UK rap framework filtered through ambient sound design, mythic storytelling and Klein’s reflections on growing up in an environment shaped by self-surveillance.
First announced in August with the single and self-directed visual “rich dad poor dad”, sleep with a cane was written, produced, and largely performed by Klein herself. The project features only two collaborators, Ecco2k, who appears on “young, black and free”, and Manchester duo Space Afrika, who contribute vocals to “trident”.
