Archy Marshall celebrates 10 years of ‘A New Place 2 Drown’ with instrumental edition

XL Recordings is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Archy Marshall’s A New Place 2 Drown with a newly remastered instrumental edition, available digitally and a 12-inch vinyl pressing which will arrive on 16th January.

Alongside the announcement, Marshall releases “When And Why”, a long-rumoured track recorded during the original sessions and shared only once in a past livestream. The song, considered a rarity among fans for nearly a decade, is now officially available for the first time.

Released in December 2015 under his own name rather than King Krule, A New Place 2 Drown showcased a different dimension of Marshall’s work, a shadowy mix of fogged beats, intimate production and diaristic mood that earned critical praise. Developed with his brother and visual collaborator Jack Marshall, the project originally arrived with a companion book and short film, forming a portrait of the brothers’ South London world.
