ACG and experimental running platform Mental Athletic staged “Exhibition of S.P.E.E.D. (Mostra di Velocità)” last week, transforming Slam Jam’s Milan cultural venue Spazio Maiocchi into a closed-loop ultra-trail course.
Constructed inside the gallery, a 150-metre off-road circuit replaced the varied terrain of traditional trail running with a repetitive, unchanging track. Over three days, 27 international athletes tackled escalating distances: 15km on day one, 50km on day two and 100km on day three, the latter requiring 666 laps of the same course.
The project inverted the conventions of ultra-trail racing, swapping open landscapes for enforced repetition and proximity. Spectators were able to witness the entirety of a 100km effort at close range, a rarity in a discipline typically spread across remote terrain. Developed as a live testing ground for endurance and psychological resilience, the event challenged runners to maintain pace and efficiency under mounting fatigue, reframing progress as persistence rather than distance covered.
The exhibition preceded the launch of the ACG Ultrafly Trail SP campaign, created in collaboration with Mental Athletic, and brought together participants drawn from both organisations’ global networks.
