Erick the Architect has announced his second solo album, AFTERBURNER, his first full-length for Mass Appeal, out 22nd January 2027.
The Flatbush Zombies founding member shared lead single “YERR” alongside the announcement, featuring Ghostface Killah and Fergie Baby. The track brings together artists from Brooklyn, Staten Island and Harlem, with a two-part structure and beat switch. It was the only song made before the rest of the album took shape.
Speaking on the single, Erick explained: “I wanted to do some New York shit. I had to go to Harlem and hit up Fergie Baby, had to go to Staten Island and go get Ghostface Killah. When I made this record, we had to have at least three different eras of hip hop.”
Conceived as one continuous piece of music, the upcoming album was recorded mainly in 2025 and developed largely in sequence. Erick moved away from writing every line in advance, instead recording through improvisation and stream of consciousness. Themes of self-knowledge and agency run throughout, and the record moves across hip-hop, reggae, rock, R&B and dance music while staying rooted in New York and his Jamaican heritage.
