Stockholm vocalist and producer DJ Suzy has released her debut album, Kira Krash, alongside a new video for single “dream”, and announced her first US headline tour for March 2027.
Named after her antagonist alter ego, the album pairs bubbling synths, G-funk basslines, alt-pop, R&B and breakbeat, exploring a “shadow self” and the light and dark within. Created with Oscar Scheller, Osrin and Elvira Anderfjärd, the LP draws on video game nostalgia, with nods to Super Mario Galaxy in “end scene” and “bowser loves peach”. Earlier singles include “sw33t”, which received a remix from Nourished By Time, and “why did i say i loved you”.
Speaking on the album, DJ Suzy explained: “Since 2019, I’ve had the idea of creating an alter ego in the form of a doll. Over time, my relationship with her has grown as I’ve continued to explore her world, touching on themes of shame, unrequited love, neglected feelings, addiction, escapism, sorrow, and grief. Through this album, we get to experience Kira’s world, which is a part of myself. It’s about the fear and the courage it takes to be true to yourself.”
The accompanying video for “dream” was directed by Nemo Hinders and filmed in Gothenburg using set design from a theatrical production of George Orwell’s 1984, giving it a surreal, nightmarish atmosphere.
