London rapper Jeshi has released his brand new mixtape, Headrush, out now via Select Discs / Partisan Records.
The 10-track project is a tribute to nightlife and the clubs where he first discovered dance music as a teenager, and features new single “PSYCHO!” alongside previously released tracks “headrush” with X CLUB., “champagne”, “at the wheel” and “linea rossa” with Cameo Blush. Further features come from Ineffekt, Fredwave, Big Ever, Just Lil and Oscar Farrell.
Speaking on the project, Jeshi explained: “I’d go from Walthamstow to Essex and it felt like I’d been teleported into another world. The over-the-topness of the clubs felt so exciting to my 17-year-old brain. There was a freedom then where you didn’t need to know the right records or be part of the right scene.
Dance music has always been one of my biggest inspirations but I always felt like an outsider to that world. I was DJing at friends’ parties a lot but wanted to bridge these two loves of mine and create a space between them. To make songs and put my life into them the same way I always had, but then be able to play them out straight away in rooms full of people. I love the immediateness of it.”
The mixtape caps a busy 18 months, including collaborations with Celeste, Leon Vynehall, Vegyn, Ross From Friends and, most recently, Oscar Farrell on “Greyhound”.
