Runway: SANKUANZ Spring/ Summer 2024 Collection

Inspired largely by the Dakinis, mystical deities, SANKUANZ’ latest collection took to the runway in Paris on Saturday, blending their silent and wrathful forms to explore the freedom of the self.

Through reinterpretations of traditional Western shapes combined with the oversized, wrapped garments of various traditional costumes across Asia pieces boasted crossed collars and fronts, hip-hugging belts, and voluminous, elongated sleeves redefining proportions across suits, jackets, and workwear pieces. In particular, the denim look headed the collection this season, featuring unfinished hems and a sleek nylon that mimics its look.

In terms of footwear, the trademark SANKUANZ ‘Dagger Boots’ were reimagined by melding them with a sneaker body, and for bags, a new boho bag, crafted from suede or translucent material with the distinctive dagger detail, expanded on the collection of iconic ‘Dagger Bags’. Through the use of earrings, bracelets and armbands, jewellery transformed the body into symbolic adornments. Decorative fangs and claws represented inner demons often associated with the Dakinis. Traditional knotting techniques were manifested in oversized necklaces and earrings plated in gold, whilst a pendant of clustered horse-eye gems forming a dagger’s hilt evokes the essence of a ritual object.
