Harvey Causon delivers stunning debut album ‘Square Breath’

North London composer, musician and vocalist Harvey Causon has released his highly-anticipated debut album Square Breath.

Expressing his own experiences of hope and frustration, influences past and present, reflections on the future, and the cultural knowledge gained from his environment, Square Breath was formed to tell a larger story; his raw, intricate lyricism and dystopian soundwaves dominate the album’s arc, detailing crucial subject matter that blossoms into an enigmatic display of authority and vulnerability. From love and heartbreak to the worsening climate crisis, competition through capitalism and the spiral of artificial intelligence, Causon’s highly fertile and visionary mind stands as a true testament to his powers of documentation.

Speaking on his debut album, Causon stated: “I have always had a tendency to breathe in a ‘square motion’ when I am thinking deeply or intensely about things. ‘Square Breath’ is a documentation of my most fervent emotional responses to anxieties and inspirations of the world we live in. I have wanted to tell a larger story in album form for a long time, and these songs crafted alone and with multiple collaborators in many different places offer a collection of moments of intensities that in some way or another reference a shortness or an abundance of breath; a constant that connects us to the living world.”

The debut full length has come alongside recent performances with Mercury Prize winner Sampha across Austin and Dallas as a band member and the main supporting act, and a performance at Tyler The Creator’s infamous festival Camp Flog Gnaw.

Causon has also announced live headline dates for February 2025, which will see him playing at Bristol’s Rough Trade on Wednesday 26th February and the ICA, London on Thursday 27th February. For these shows, Causon will playing with his full band for the first time since 2022.
