Joe James unleashes debut album ‘The Ends, Never Ends’

Southend rapper Joe James has released his long-awaited debut album, The Ends, Never Ends, via Neighbourhood, alongside a new video for “Ignorance Was Never Bliss” featuring Loyle Carner.

Years in the making, the project sees Joe deliver his most personal work to date, exploring themes of family, trauma, masculinity, class and resilience. The album also marks his first major role in the production process, with Joe working closely alongside producers including Remy Jones, Micha Cooper, Felix Joseph, AOD and Callum Waddington to shape its live-instrumented sound. Grammy-winning musician Venna contributes saxophone across the record.

Drawing inspiration from blues, jazz, UK rap and alternative R&B, The Ends, Never Ends blends introspective songwriting with cinematic production. The album features appearances from Loyle Carner, Dave, Lancey Foux and Parisian vocalist Astrønne, while longtime collaborators including Hak Baker, KB of Sounds Mint and Raws reinforce the sense of community that underpins the project.

Speaking on the album, Joe James explained: “This album isn’t for the club. It’s not dance music. I wanted it to sound abstract, jazzy and soulful. It’s something you listen to while driving, walking, sitting on the tube with your headphones on. Smoke a spliff, ride your bike, go up a mountain, that type of feeling.”
