Magi Merlin has released her debut album, POWER HOUSE, a genre-defying project that explores identity and self-empowerment.
Written from her bisexual/ENM perspective and broader experience of existing as a woman in systems designed to flatten her, the album navigates the contradictions of seeking validation in both platonic and romantic contexts, deconstructing the “plastic confidence” we’re taught to wear. Blending elements of jungle, futuristic house and experimental pop influences, POWER HOUSE is accompanied by a striking visual world co-created with Merlin, who serves as both co-producer and creative director.
The album follows a run of acclaimed singles including “POPSTAR”, followed by the visceral choreography of “SpiceKick”, its video directed by Félicie Diaz and Noshirt, then “So Smart” and culminating with “pixxxie”, a liberation of women from the male gaze sung ironically from the perspective of the “manic pixie dream girl”.
