DJ and producer JD. REID has returned with “easy”, a new club-focused single featuring Karen Nyame KG and George Riley, released via his BABY GRAVY imprint.
Taking influence from Lisbon’s batida scene alongside UK funky and garage, “easy” pairs driving percussion with understated vocal contributions from Karen Nyame KG and George Riley, delivering a rhythmic, summer-ready club cut.
Following recent releases ‘blackout’ with Bok Bok and “inside” with Reek0, the track continues REID’s run of dancefloor-driven productions inspired by his GRAVY* club nights in Peckham and his long-running EDITS DJ tool series.
Speaking on the release, JD. REID explained: “One morning I walked into my studio block and SBTRKT had left a free synth in the corridor. I took it into my studio, plugged it in, and played the chords that ended up starting ‘easy’. Straight away, it felt like summer to me, so I wanted to lean into that and make something I could imagine hearing in the sun outside. I’ve been listening to batida for a while now and studying those rhythms, and I can feel that influence naturally finding its way into what I’m making. Through experimenting, I realised there’s actually a lot of crossover in the grooves of batida, garage and UK funky, and that they share certain pockets rhythmically. To me, ‘easy’ sits somewhere between those sounds.”
