Arlo Parks has released a new version of “Floette” featuring London artist John Glacier.
The Grammy-nominated, Mercury Prize and BRIT-winning singer worked with the rapper, poet and producer to rework the track, taken from her acclaimed album Ambiguous Desire. Glacier’s restrained vocal delivery gives the song, originally one of the record’s most euphoric moments celebrating queer joy, a more subdued tone.
Ambiguous Desire was released in April via Transgressive Records. Parks made the album with producer Baird, known for his work with Brockhampton and Kevin Abstract, along with contributions from Paul Epworth (Adele, Rihanna), Buddy Ross (Frank Ocean) and Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief).
Much of the record was shaped by nights spent in clubs across Los Angeles, New York and London over the past two years. Parks cited influences including Paradise Garage-era queer club culture, The Streets, Burial, LCD Soundsystem and Theo Parrish. Parks replaced her usual live band with modular synths and samplers for the album, aiming to capture that dancefloor energy while keeping her signature lyricism at the forefront.
