Los Angeles band untitled (halo) have announced their self-titled debut album, out 6th November via Dirty Hit, alongside lead single “aimee lou wood freestyle”.
The track is accompanied by a self-directed music video featuring ballet dancers and slow-motion shots across a dry lake bed. It began as the first demo the band wrote for the album, with contributions from each member, including Nick’s synth outro, Ari’s lyrics, Jay’s trap beat and Jack’s rap verse.
The band, made up of Ariana Mamnoon, Jack Dione, Jay Are and Nicholas Noneman, formed after years moving through Los Angeles’ DIY scene, including curating a 40-person group art show with Obey and running their own party series. Written over a year in their Glassell Park studio, the album explores themes of memory and identity, developed during a period the band has described as marked by heartbreak and isolation, coining the term “California Melancholia” to describe the mood underpinning the record.
untitled (halo) will play headline shows across Europe this September, including Barcelona, London, Paris and Berlin, before a North American run in November taking in Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York City, San Francisco and a hometown show in Los Angeles.
