London-based Klein has announced a new album, my own fairytale, released via Parkwuud Entertainment.
Written, produced and performed by Klein, the album is her take on a dark, Disney-esque soundtrack, drawing on ambient, noise, grime and R&B. Its themes centre on a double life, as Klein’s family remains unaware of her musical and artistic career, with her voice emerging more directly in the second half on tracks such as “bridge the gap” and “promise to come home”. Highlights include “forever yours”, “princess of the souf”, the previously released “man in the mirror” and “siren reloaded”, featuring violinist Sasha Scott and originally performed live with the London Sinfonietta Orchestra at Holland Festival.
Described as perhaps her most introspective record since debuting in 2016, the album follows a busy year in which Klein opened for Tinie Tempah, presented her first New York art show at Amant Gallery alongside Kim Gordon and Christelle Oyiri, and released a joint EP with Mica Levi, Turn Up.
Klein plays a headline show at the ICA in London on 30th September.
