Scottish duo Slam, aka Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, have spent the last two decades cementing their name as one of techno’s most recognised and respected artists to date. Renowned for their unfathomable contemporary sound, the pair have cultivated their iconic Soma Records which has supported a plethora of upcoming and established talent right across the globe – cataloguing in excess of 600 releases including a number of their own. In terms of events, Slam boast their very own Riverside Festival over in Glasgow as well as the legendary Maximum Pressure warehouse parties which showcase some of the very best local talent Glasgow has to offer. If that’s not enough, the duo run their notorious ‘Slam’ weekly podcast which has now surpassed 300 episodes and continues to gather momentum, showcasing the very best techno has to offer. The show allows them to showcase their conviction to curating tasteful music and vibes that provide an antidote to the mainstream, inviting a range of artists from obscure names to current trailblazers.
Recently, McMillan and Meikle announced their ‘Louder Than Chaos’ project – a collaborative series of five 12″ releases on vinyl and digital with friends, colleagues and contemporaries normally only seen at airports, or events now brought together under a completely different set of circumstances – allowing for a purposeful connection in a time of disconnect. For their first offering, the pair have called up 999999999, Héctor Oaks and Optic Nerve to deliver an EP packed full of formidable techno force. The EP is available to purchase and listen on Bandcamp.
Slam – Capture [Soma Records]
“This came out on our label Soma last year and was one of the many ep’s we recorded during lockdown. It’s stood the test of time and is in heavy rotation in our sets now.”
Kander – Hostile [R-Label Group]
“Don’t know too much about this artist but this track has been firing on all cylinders in our sets recently. It sends the crowd crazy with its driving EBM baseline!“
VINYA – Flui (Tham Remix) [Marked]
“We’ve been playing a lot of VINYA stuff in our sets of late. This time Berlin rising star Tham is drafted in on the remix duties. It’s just got all the right driving elements that people resonate with.”
Slam & Hector Oaks – Pathfinder [Soma Records]
“This just came out as volume one on our latest collerative project Louder Than Chaos. It’s a driving melodic stand out track in our sets of late! Volume one also included tracks by 999999999 and Detroit’s Optic Nerve!“
CRAVO – SL4 (Original Mix) [Raw Raw Records]
“Don’t know a huge amount about CRAVO except he’s recorded on a whole bunch of labels including Klockworks & Faut Section amongst many others. This is a proper Birmingham style raw Techno workout. Driving and relentless and hypnotic!”
