Double Virgo—the London-based duo of Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton, also known for their work in the project bar italia with Nina Cristante—have released their debut album for YEAR0001. Titled Shakedown, the 12-track record marks a significant shift in visibility for the project, following several years of independently issued material.
The LP introduces a more polished production style for Double Virgo. Tracks like “Bemused” lean toward sharper, more defined indie rock, while others, such as “Due Dilettante”, retain the foggy, grunge-inflected and melancholic tone heard in the duo’s earlier work.
While Shakedown is their first full-length under YEAR0001—the current label home of artists like Toxe, Eurohead, and ESP—Double Virgo self-released a catalogue of work that steadily gained underground attention. Their discography includes two full-length albums, Foolish Narratives (2022) and Hardrive Heat Seeking (2023), as well as a number of EPs and singles. Much of this material was shared via Bandcamp, YouTube, and Spotify, though availability has varied across platforms. In 2022, the duo also released the EP Eros In The Bunker in collaboration with Vegyn’s label PLZ ‘Make It Ruins’, a short-lived but notable link to one of London’s more prominent experimental music imprints.
The album marks their first release with YEAR0001 and is available now on streaming platforms. The 12″ vinyl is available now via shop.year0001.com.
